Shift Pattern: 5 out of 7 including some weekend working - 9-hour shifts
Salary: £36,000 Days / £38,000 Nights
Based: Northampton

 

About Romac Logistics:

Romac Logistics is a growing transport and logistics company focused on operational excellence, compliance and delivering high standards of customer service.

We are currently recruiting for two experienced Transport Shift Managers, one to oversee our day operation and one to manage our night operation, based at our Swan Valley site in Northampton.

Our busy transport operation involves a mixture of ambient and chilled distribution, utilising both single and double-deck trailers. We are looking for strong, hands-on leaders who can effectively manage drivers, maintain compliance and ensure the smooth running of transport operations.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise a team of HGV drivers, ensuring operational standards and performance are maintained.

  • Oversee daily transport activities, ensuring deliveries and collections are completed safely, efficiently and on time.

  • Monitor driver hours, tachograph compliance and Working Time Directive regulations.

  • Coordinate transport movements, ensuring effective fleet utilisation across single and double-deck trailers.

  • Conduct driver briefings and debriefs, addressing operational issues and performance concerns.

  • Respond effectively to delays, breakdowns, customer queries and other operational challenges.

  • Ensure compliance with DVSA requirements, road transport legislation and company procedures.

  • Monitor shift performance, complete KPI reporting and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Work closely with the wider transport team to maintain service levels and support operational efficiency.

  • Support the Transport Manager with operational performance, driver management and cost control.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience as a Transport Shift Manager, Transport Supervisor or in a similar transport management role.

  • Strong knowledge of drivers' hours regulations, tachograph rules and transport compliance.

  • Experience managing HGV drivers within a fast-paced transport or logistics environment.

  • Good understanding of fleet operations, route planning and transport scheduling.

  • Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to make effective decisions under pressure and manage changing operational demands.

  • Experience within chilled or ambient distribution would be advantageous.

  • Transport Manager CPC qualification is desirable but not essential.
